Churches Together in Costessey
St Walstan’s enjoys very friendly relationships with all the other Christian churches in the area. The clergy attend regular fraternals with the Anglicans, Baptists & Methodists from Costessey &, separately, a fraternal with the Anglicans, Methodists & Evangelicals from Drayton, Taverham & Thorpe Marriott. We hold a United Service at all the major festivals of the year & co-operate in various events. The Services & other activities are advertised in our weekly bulletin.
We have also established an annual pilgrimage from our church in Costessey to the last remaining St Walstan’s Well near the Anglican church in Bawburgh. This church was the original burial place of St Walstan & his shrine was there until the reformation; the church has the same dedication as our parish, St Mary & St Walstan. The pilgrimage normally takes place around 30th May, which is the feast of St Walstan; we are usually joined by the vicar & some Bawburgh parishioners. After a short service at the Well, weather permitting, we have a picnic.
As a parish, we totally accept that one of the most important aims for all Christian churches is the restoration of full, visible unity, while appreciating that this will require much effort on all side, our prayer is that of Jesus “That they may be one”. As has been said many times, “For Catholics, ecumenism & seeking unity is not & cannot be an optional extra”.
Costessey Prayer Group
We are a charismatic prayer group and we have been meeting for over 35 years. We usually meet every Tuesday during term time from 10:00 til 11:30am in the Garden Room. We love to see new faces and you would be made very welcome. Or if you just wish to be prayed for then come along to a meeting and the group will pray for you. If you have intentions you would like us to pray for then leave them in the Intentions Box in church (beside votive candle stand). Contact Rob Smith on 01603 460764 or Maureen Watt on 01603 951167 or email email@example.com. For more details click here.
Mothers come together at St. Augustines school. We pray for our children at the school once a fortnight. For meeting dates, look out for notices in the parish newsletter.
